Does the Amount of Years Your Domain is Registered Affect Your Site's Search Engine Ranking?

It seems that in Google's latest patent filing it noted that domains that registered for a longer period of time are more likely to be serious business sites and not SEO spam sites. This is one of the reasons they became a domain name registrar.

They obviously feel that sites that register for 5 - 10 years are more serious about their publishing than sites that register for one year. Many people who create spammy doorway pages only register for a year or less "according to some experts". I only register my domains yearly because I feel why tie up money for ten years for a domain. I have a number of domains and this would be relatively expensive.

It really just seems like another way for Google to move more well capitalized sites to the top of their directory results. A good article to read on this subject can be :Read Here
