Myth # 2 about Search Engine Marketing -- MetaTags will raise your rankings!

Believe it or not I still talk to developers and web designers that feel that Metatags help you optimize your website for search engine rankings. Since Metatags were abused by so many web business people the search engines treat them very passe.

The modern leading search engines put little credence on Metatags. However they are still important for your inhouse or third party search tools like Atomz to give a search function on your site. More importantly they are important for advertising programs like Google Adsense to feed contextual ads to your site. I noticed that I get more targeted ads from Google with my Metatags filled out. Also I read from a reliable source that Yahoo (the Internet's second largest search engine) still uses the description attribute in the Metatags.

So don't abandon Metatags fill them out.
