Protect Your Local Business

Did you know the local ad market is a 150 Billion dollar industry in the US? Exactly, I know it is a huge market.

Because of the size of the market there are companies trying hard to capture this market. They have legions of sales people selling ad campaigns to local businesses. Companies like Yelp!, Hubspot, Sign Post, and countless others will call you constantly trying to sell you ad programs.

Three things you may want to avoid:

1. Do not give them ownership of your Google My Business page;

2. Don't give them control of your database; and...

3. Don't sign long term contracts.

When you give them ownership of your Google My Business page you are giving them control of your presence on Google and it will be hell to get it back. Also when you give them control of your customer's database that's your business so they own you.

Also giving them long term contracts will give them legal and financial punitive damages over you if the ads aren't working and you try to pull out of it. I've seen bad things happen to my customers. If you want to know how to effectively advertise or market your business locally inbox me for a free consultation.

Sell More On The Internet

Selling On The Internet

Usually you can't just set up a web page and start successfully selling online. You need to create a sales funnel. In many instances you will need a way to get a good number of qualified or interested visitors to your website. Then in many instances you will need to try to get their email address and follow up with them.

It usually takes at least 6 views for people online to buy from you. An email automated follow up system can increase your sales.

Sure you can sell on other platforms like eBay and Shopify but still try to have your own web presence to sell from too. You never know when other web platforms will try to hike up their commission share and erode your profits. Don't listen to web gurus who tell you that you don't need a website or having one is passe.

If you only sell on other web platforms you have to listen to their rules. For instance Amazon sells a lot of books but they take a larger commission split than you do. You do all the writing, pay for editing, book design, publishing costs, and having the books printed and they get a bigger cut than you do.

It is hard to make money that way. If you need more information on creating a sales funnel hit me up 973-2986148.

Build A Team And Grow Your Business

You need a team In business.  You can't do everything yourself.  You have to hire or contract work out to other people.

My business coach Andrew Morrison taught me this many years ago when I was toiling as a solopreneur. You may be thinking I can't afford to hire good people in my business.  Where do I get help from?  Morrison also schooled me that...

Test Your Mobile Site's Speed for Business Survival

If you have an online business, even a local one, you have to remember you need a mobile version of your site. It is crucial peeps because in many industries 80% of your visitors will be using mobile phones.

If you market on social media or search engines many people will be using mobile devices. It is critical to have a mobile strategy because Google, designs its search engine for a "mobile 1st" experience because most people surf the Internet on mobile devices.

Don't Lose Business Like 50 Percent Of Entrepreneurs Without A Google or Bing Listing

I read a stat that 50% of US businesses haven't claimed their local Google and Bing Listings yet. So if you're a business person reading this there's a 50/50 chance you haven't been listed locally on Google and Bing.

You could be missing the chance to have hundreds or thousands of people visiting your Google My Business Page, Bing Business Page, and website or blog by not being listed. Why let your competition get all the free business exposure?

Why You Should Use Both Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Promotion to Grow Your Business

I excell in search engine and social media promotion. I believe both local and nationally focused businesses today need a strong synergistic search engine and social media marketing program.

This is the reality because certain types of search engine marketing, although eventually highly effective, could take weeks, months, or even (in the case of extremely competitive business sectors) years to achieve a top 1st page listing. However, did you know you can drive tens of thousands of prospective customers to your website business destination within weeks using social media marketing.

If you think you have a promising and viable business idea that could be profitable being seen by thousands or tens of thousands of prospective customers call me at 973-298-6148 to see if we can get your business growing and expanding more online.

Is Email Still Essential For Your Business

Today I spoke to business owner and colleague who sold me my 1st PC. Over the years he has repaired my PCs and sold me computer equipment and peripherals.

He is an insightful entrepreneur who is running a computer sales and repair shop in the same location for 20 years. But now he is moving to a new location. And he needs me to help him build a website and market to his client base to let them know he is moving.

The problem is he doesn't have an email database of his customers. Entrepreneurs in business, please, please, pretty please build an email follow up system for your business.

Having a social media profile isn't enough. You need a system where you control reaching your customers and clients as much as possible.

Essentially, your business isn't your products, brand, or location. Your business is primarily your customers and clients that keep you in business. If you have an email follow up system that you can automatically sign up people on your website and also manually add to the database of your brick and mortar store you are in a better business position to survive and thrive in business.

The Hair Raising Story of Internet Marketing

If you're in an industry where the business owners don't traditionally use digital advertising or promotion (like search engines and social media) you should considering becoming a pioneer and doing it. You could actually corner the market on a local or niche industry that way.

For instance recently I approached upscale hair salons in my area, which of course usually survive on word of mouth and referrals. Salons in our community almost have a captive market because most people have to have their hair cut or styled.

Therefore, most of the business owners weren't open to it. They feel they don't need it. If fact some got down right nasty towards me for even suggesting the idea.

Don't Underestimate Your Small Business.

Just because you're a start up business in an industry with larger, better financed, and established companies to compete with doesn't mean you're gonna be commercial road kill. The bigger companies will try to run you over but it doesn't mean you give up your dreams.

Sure business can sometimes be war especially when your competition has major advantages. However, some bigger companies tend to be conservative and cautious. They tend to be skeptical about new approaches and technologies which could work to your benefit.

Try to understand the conventional wisdom in your industry or business sector. But don't be afraid to innovate when necessary. For instance, I remember when the Internet 1st started and I'd try to get real estate companies to post real estate online they'd laugh at me and say things like "we don't advertise on the Internet - we advertise with the New York Times."

But now the times have changed and almost all real estate is marketed online.  I remember the days companies, especially small businesses, advertised with the Yellow Book and Blue Book.

Google Adwords Brings a New Revenue Stream to a Local Business

Thank God, I can work in a business where increasingly I can make a difference in my community with business and economic development. Maybe I'm crazy but I feel business development in our community is essential to improving our quality of life, property values, and recycling money, to strengthen the overall areas where we live.

It was nice to see how one of my clients recently, has been able to draw a lot of new business in the NYC pest control sector. My client Rodent Killers (RK), like a lot of traditional businesses, was skeptical about search engine advertising and digital marketing.

They advertised in the Yellow Book, Bluebook, etc. But the response was slow and nominal. So when I spoke to them about Google advertising they weren't familiar with search engine advertising. In short, they were very hesitant.

However, most of the online world, including people using computers, tablets, and increasingly smart phones search Google 1st for information, products, and services. Google gets 100 billion searches a month or 1.2 trillion a year. So these days you have to have a presence on Google to survive and a stronger presence to thrive.

We developed an ad campaign on Google that we refined over time. I just spoke to him last night and he is landing some new accounts in the Midtown Manhattan and village area in NYC that he wouldn't have reached without advertising. It feels so good to bring a new revenue stream to a neighborhood businesses.

If you need pest control services visit. http://www.RodentKillers.com . Inbox me if you'd like to discover how we can expand your business.

How Effective is Social Media for Restaurants?

I saw a social media contact with a large business following asking for social media marketers to help restaurant entrepreneurs. I commented after thinking to myself - social media for restaurants? Really?

Why not Google Adwords?  That's what I've had the best success for restaurants.  Social Media is disruptive advertising in that you have to grab people's attention and redirect them.

Why search for customers - when you can have your customer's search for you?  For instance a business owner with two pizzerias in Southeast Queens, NYC, was getting 100 deliveries a day at both his pizzerias.

I did search engine research and found out 70,000 people a month were searching for pizza delivery in his area.  I set him up with Google Adwords and within 2 years he is now averaging 250 deliveries a day in both restaurants or 500 deliveries a day total.  His average delivery is $15.  So he does about $7,500 a day in pizza deliveries.

We were able to increase his yearly sales over 1.3 million dollars in about 2 years.  And he has neighborhood pizzerias not a franchise in a national chain.

Also Grub Hub does a huge business for restaurants.  That's where the action is search marketing for restaurants.

I have over 12,000 contacts in social media and no way they have the revenue generation of people looking for specific products like a search engine.  People on social media mostly argue about hot topics or communicate with friends.

Social media is mostly branding and customer service.  Restaurants should 1st have a strong search engine plan in place for promotion and marketing.

Your Personal Shortcomings Aside You Need Customers to Survive in Business

It is nice to listen to business coaches and consultants who teach you about overcoming your fears, procrastination, or sabotaging beliefs etc. That's all good but the bottom-line is in order to have a successful business you need customers and clients to survive.

Over 80% of business fail within a few years. While many business consultants and coaches will tell you about your personal shortcomings or unproductive mental state or some metaphysics stalling your business success, the reality is you have to have a viable product or service and a sizeable market or you will fail.

Conversely I've seen a number of business people who have personal short comings, some in abundance, and have successful businesses. That's because they understand their market and know how to corner it or capture the market. Overcoming your personal idiosyncrasies is great but you need good marketing to grow a business.

If you don't believe me notice how various ethnic groups can come into your community and treat you like a suspect when you shop but they stay in business. Aw huh. Think about it they too often treat you like crap but they have a booming business.

That's because they have you as a captive market and you almost have to buy from them. They have a strong marketing position on you is my point.

Most businesses invest between 5% to 20% of their ongoing revenues on marketing including advertising. One of the fastest customer and client acquisition forms of advertising I've seen work effectively in a short time frame is Google Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. I've seen some of my clients double their business within a few months with Google PPC advertising.

In fact, I've gone to a client's business and activated their Google PPC ads and seen a barrage of calls start coming in at such a high rate the client and his staff couldn't even handle the phone calls! All just within a couple of minutes of me activating their ads.

This is why I try to get businesses in my community to use Google PPC to grow their businesses much faster. Sure you can grow your businesses eventually through word of mouth and free social media postings. If you have 5 years or more to get decent business knock yourself out.

Good luck on that. But those who are serious about growing their business as quickly as possible think again.

If you want to really boost your business quickly consider PPC advertising. Not only is a mind a terrible thing to waste but so is time.

Use Search To Find Prospective Customers on Their Cell Phones

We've literally become attached to the hip with our indispensible cell phones.  These cell phones organize our essential contacts, schedule us, give us directions, wake us up, connect us to conversations with loved ones and associates, and broadcast our daily lives to the world. Our cell phones and mobile devices are the epicenter to a myriad of tools we use to enhance our lives.

Also inadvertently to a large extent our cell phones have become a sales center to our desires, needs, and indulgences.  Cell phones today have the computing power of PCs a few years ago.

Concurrently, search engine and cellphone technology have become integral parts of our lives.  These convergent technologies help us explore new aspects of our lives as well as helping us connect with loved ones, business associates, and new opportunities like infinite information and insights.

Cell phones have become indispensable and to some users almost inseparable digital assistants with a countless array of apps to enhance people's lives.  Therefore, having a functionable and usable presence on a person's cellphone is valuable digital real estate on mobile digital devices like cellphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.

Google has made sure its search technology is well integrated into cellphone technology.  It has obviously spent a great deal of time and innovative prowess giving the highly personal tool the cellphone a very personalized search function.

Some of my clients in local businesses get over 80% or more of their calls from cellphones and mobile devices from Google.  So much so that Google is designing their search engine platform for cell phones 1st.

Also once a customer or client gets your phone number in their web page cache or contact app you have valuable real estate on their cell phones one of the most personal tools to your customers and clients.  Having a mobile and search engine strategy is critical to the success of your business.
